It’s that time of year. Depending on where you are in the country, the leaves are changing, it’s time to pull the sweaters out of the drawer and put the sandals away. It is also another time, it is time for the presidential election.
The Center has been brimming with excitement this election season for many reasons, the most important being MindfulVOTES. The month of September was all about engaging the MindfulVOTES community. Ambassadors, Leaders, Partners, and Volunteers from all across the country have been coming together with one common goal in mind: bringing mindfulness back to the election process. Sharon Salzberg, angel Kyodo williams, Akaya Windwood, Ruth King and Congressman Tim Ryan are just a few of the amazing individuals who have signed on to be MindfulVotes Ambassadors. During the month of October, MindfulVotes will be engaging with Mindful Leaders and Partners to reach the goal of 250,000 pledges by Election Day, November 6th. The MindfulVotes team, in alliance with YogaVotes, will be holding conference calls, posting self-organized debate viewing parties, and mobilizing voters to take the MindfulVOTES pledge.
During the last week in August and the first week in September, four individuals from the Center attended the Republican National Convention and Democratic National Convention to participate in The Huffington Post’s Oasis. The goal of the Oasis was to provide “a peaceful space to unplug and recharge” during both of the conventions. The team from the Center led yoga and meditation classes and helped to create awareness of the MindfulVOTES campaign. After returning from both conventions, the team from the Center continues to focus on MindfulVOTES and inform the Transformative Change community about our new Fall Schedule.
The Center will be holding a Sunday Program on the first Sunday of every month. After a long hiatus, we’d like to invite you to a monthly gathering of the sangha. We’ll have opportunities for practice and opportunities for you to get to know our practices. Tuesday evenings we will be having a sitting meditation and on Sundays we will be having our fearlessYOGA class at 12pm. We are looking forward to reconnecting with the members of the community. Join us, practice with us, reconnect with us.
